Chase Farmhouse Curatorship Agreement Extended in Lincoln

Updated: Sep 25

In 2014, the town-owned Chase Farmhouse in Lincoln was threatened with demolition due to its deterioration and lack of viable use. Constructed in 1890, this fixture on Great Road was one of the last working dairy farms in Lincoln. The farm was purchased by the town in 1965 and the farmland was converted to a popular public park.

Local preservation advocates asked Preserve RI to meet with the Town to help save the farmhouse. In 2015 Preserve RI entered into a long-term “Curatorship” Agreement with the Town to rehabilitate the building and convert it into two residential rental units. Preserve RI’s upfront rehabilitation costs are being repaid over time through rent payments from both apartments.

Preserve RI recently proposed a second campaign of rehabilitation work to the Lincoln Town Council. The scope

of work includes urgent foundation and masonry work, window sash restoration, and the recreation of the south porch entrance in a more historically accurate design. In August 2024, the Town Council approved Preserve RI’s proposal for a 10-year extension. We will utilize our Revolving Fund along with a grant from The 1772 Foundation to finance the construction projects. Preserve RI is excited to extend this partnership with the Town of Lincoln and to continue to do important rehab work at the historic Chase Farmhouse!
